Corporate and commercial law

Melvin is engaged via referred work where he provides legal consulting services with specialisation in strategic and tactical advice, structuring and negotiating transactions (e.g. mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and other business arrangements) and advising on corporate governance issues. His clients operate in industries such as healthcare, IT, insurance, financial services, security, retail, chemicals, manufacturing, and mining. His country and regional experience includes Australia, New Zealand, USA, UK, Europe, Africa, Latin America and Central Asia.

With a successful track record partnering with clients to solve problems and get transactions signed up and completed, Melvin knows that navigating international transactions can be risky and expensive. In considering this, he adds value by liaising with and directing the in-country local counsel to achieve an efficient outcome for his clients. Melvin also draws from working in capacities such as lead counsel, sole legal advisor or principal/director in the successful execution of various of corporate and commercial transactions and projects throughout their lifecycles with values from AUD 1 million to AUD 1 billion.

Prior to commencing his own legal practice, Melvin was Legal Counsel for Wesfarmers Limited. Here, he provided corporate and commercial legal services, acted as the Compliance Manager for the manager of the Bunnings Warehouse Property Trust, and delivered Australian Competition and Consumer Law compliance training to staff across Australia. Before joining Wesfarmers, he was a senior lawyer for the Australian national law firm Corrs Chambers Westgarth where he was involved in managing and developing its Perth corporate advisory practice. In this work, he gained valuable experience in corporate governance, capital markets and capital raising, mergers and acquisitions, financing, and mining law.
